Dr. Markus Perola MD, PhD, is a Research Professor at the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), Finland. He is leading a research team focusing on the epidemiology, genomics and other omics in relevance to common human traits, personalised medicine and biobanking. He also is the Chief Scientific Officer of the THL biobank, the largest population-based biobank in Finland and a member of the Board of Directors in Finnish Biobank Cooperative –FINBB. He is the vice-director of the Clinical and Molecular Metabolism Research Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki. He is a member of the FinnGen Study Steering Committee and the PI of the FinRegistry and COVIDprog – studies. He is the Chair of the Ethical Board of the Helsinki University Hospital, a member of the Ethical Advisory Council of the Finnish Medical Association and a member of European Society of Human Genetics Public and Professional Policy Committee. His publication list includes over 400 original articles. Dr. Perola is also a Consultant in Public Health Medicine and a practicing physician in HUS Helsinki University Hospital.
